Valley River Stream Enhancement

Mulkey partnered with the Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition and completed one of the largest stream restoration projects in North Carolina at the time—enhancing over 5,500 linear feet of the Valley River stream channel. We used natural channel design methods to achieve a natural, stable channel, capable of carrying its sediment load without harm. A trout stream classification and the presence of protected species required extensive coordination with resource agencies. This project received the 2006 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) NC Grand Award.
