I-77 Design/Build

Mulkey, Inc. was the primary Construction Engineering and Inspections firm on the I-77 Design/Build project, which involves widening 8.9 miles of I-77. The scope of the project also includes five bridge structures, a culvert extension, a soil nail wall, MSE walls and noise walls.

Mulkey is providing utility coordination, construction observation, construction administration, construction stakeout, materials testing and sampling, constructability reviews and quality assurance plan audits. The firm has committed 19 construction inspectors to oversee this dynamic project and maintain its intense schedule.

Mulkey also developed a dedicated web site to keep all project stakeholders informed about the progress of construction. This innovative use of technology has enhanced communication among participating vendors, the North Carolina Department of Transportation and other interested parties. The team won the Pride In Construction– Public & Media Relations/Education award from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association for these efforts.
