Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge
Charleston, SC

With two diamond-shaped center towers—each reaching an enormous height of over 500 feet—and a total length of over two miles, the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge in Charleston, SC is more than just an engineering marvel. Upon its completion, the new bridge will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America.

Mulkey played an integral role in designing “Line 12,” an 810-foot approach section of the bridge. Line 12 allows access to the eight-lane, cable-stayed bridge and enables commuters to travel easily from Mt. Pleasant, SC to Charleston, SC.

The bridge is tall enough to allow Naval vessels and commercial ships to enter and exit Charleston Harbor. Due to a history of earthquakes in the Charleston area, engineers incorporated concepts that would enable the bridge to withstand a quake up to a magnitude of 7.3.

Mulkey is proud to be associated with such an outstanding example of modern engineering.
