Mulkey Joins ACEC’s “Great Collaboration” of North Carolina AEC Professionals, Universities and Colleges
Raleigh, NC—Sep. 27, 2011— Valoree K. Eikinas, PE, LEED® AP, director of building structures and land development at Mulkey Engineers & Consultants, was a key player in “The Great Collaboration,” also known as the Public and Private Higher Education Design and Construction Symposium, hosted by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of North Carolina’s Buildings & Infrastructure Committee. The event brought together a group of over 200 North Carolina architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) professionals and representatives from local colleges and universities on Sept. 22 at the Jane S. McKimmon Conference and Training Center on North Carolina State University’s campus.
This group of AEC professionals joined forces with design and construction decision-makers from North Carolina’s public and private universities and colleges to discuss as well as learn more about the higher education AEC industry in the state. By uniting these professionals in one room – sharing best practices, lessons learned, and visions for the future – the lines of communication opened, allowing them to begin to work more collaboratively. Additionally, the symposium served as a forum for attendees to exchange ideas on how the state of North Carolina can continue its position as a leader in AEC higher education programs.
Valoree served as a panelist in the Designer Selection Session, which was moderated by the director of the State Construction Office. This session included other panelists from local universities such as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Duke University. Later in the day, Valoree moderated the Quality Assurance panel. For this session, she was joined by representatives from North Carolina State University, Elon University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Guilford Technical Community College, as well as BE&K Building Group.
Other discussions for the day included a Project Delivery panel, Energy and Sustainability panel, along with a Higher Education and Economic Development session led by Bob Etheridge, the former U.S. Representative for North Carolina’s second congressional district.
